BEST SPAIN DANCERS PROFILES
:
Traditional
music and dance in Spain
exist in different forms, dance styles,
and traditions, many of which have remained unchanged
for hundreds of years. One reason for this is that
in Spain, music and dance are a natural
part of daily life. The traditional way of life was
preserved in Spain up to and past the 1970s.
The geography
of Spain has contributed to its diversity
of folk styles.Spain
occupies much of the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal
and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean
Sea. There are several mountain ranges in Spain that
isolate parts of the country physically and culturally.
Invaders over the centuries also added to the country's
diversity of musical styles.
Spain is a country
with a long and rich tradition of folk music
and dance. Spain has 17
autonomous regions. Each takes pride in its unique
traditions and the way they contribute to the whole
of Spanish culture. Four of the
regions are Galicia, Valencia, Catalonia,
and Andalusia.
Galicia
is in the northwest corner the country. It has its
own language, Gallego, which is much closer to Portuguese
than to Castilian Spanish. Bagpipes can be heard in
some of its music. This region also
includes many dances, including the
well-known sword dances. Spain's
strong dance traditions are closely related
to its musical styles in every region.
